The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) is an intergovernmental dialogue and political coordination mechanism established by Latin American countries to seek peace, socio-economic development and integration region-wide.
Each year, CELAC members elect a member nation to preside over the organization under the Presidency Pro-Tempore modality. In 2016, the Dominican Republic assumed this position.
For such event, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX, by its initials in Spanish) organized a contest among the students of the main universities and institutions specialized in design of the country, contest in which this proposal received the second place.

La Comunidad de Estados Latinoamericanos y Caribeños (CELAC) es un mecanismo intergubernamental de diálogo y concertación política establecido por los paises de América Latina en la busqueda de paz, desarrollo socio-económico e integración en toda la región.
Cada año, los miembros de la CELAC eligen a una nación miembro para que presida el organismo bajo la modalidad de Presidencia Pro-Témpore. En el 2016, República Dominicana asumió dicho cargo.
Para tal evento, el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores (MIREX) organizó un concurso entre los estudiantes de las principales universidades e instituciones especializadas en diseño del país, concurso en el que esta propuesta recibió el segundo lugar.
The logo for this proposal has been designed taking into account elements not only with a significant history in the Dominican Republic, but also in the rest of the Caribbean and Latin America.
It uses the palm as the symbol, not only because this plant is one of the first images that come to mind when you think of the Caribbean, and by association its beaches, but also because its leaf is part of the Dominican shield and represents the freedom for which the founders of our country fought. The wavy lines represent both the waves of the Caribbean Sea and the dynamism that characterizes the inhabitants of the region.

El logotipo para esta propuesta ha sido diseñado tomando en cuenta elementos no solo con una historia significativa en la República Dominicana, sino también en el resto del Caribe y Latinoamérica.
Utiliza la palma como símbolo, no sólo porque esta planta es una de las primeras imágenes que vienen a la mente cuando se piensa en el Caribe, y por asociación sus playas, sino también porque su hoja es parte del escudo dominicano y representa la libertad por la cual lucharon los padres de nuestra patria. Las líneas onduladas representan tanto las olas del Mar Caribe como el dinamismo que caracteriza a los habitantes de la región.
